(Denver, CO – posted by Jeanie Rhoades)  MountainCity released Norah Jones’s, “Come Away with Me,” their third cover single, on May 12, 2017.

Dave and Tara Powers, the Colorado-based, singing/songwriting, married duo who comprise MountainCity, have been releasing a new recording each month since June 2016. While most are original songs, this release marks their third cover song and features their song, rife with personal meaning and memories for the couple.

Come Away with Me

Norah Jones wrote the title song for her debut album, “Come Away with Me,” which was released in late 2002. It was charting as Dave and Tara met and their friendship was developing. It became the soundtrack of their early romance and a foretelling of the life they would share – one filled with travel and adventure and literally, as the lyrics promised, writing love songs together.

“Come away with me in the night

Come away with me

And I will write you a song”*

Dave remembers, “When Tara and I were dating, ‘Come Away With Me’ was ‘our song.’ Every time we heard it somewhere, we would look each other in the eyes, smile, and sometimes erupt into a spontaneous slow-dance. To this day, this song still has that effect on us. It is still very much ‘our song.’”

It’s “our love song”

“I had a lot of reservations about recording this song,” Tara shared recently. “Because Norah Jones’s version is so good. But it’s our love song.”

“Our goal wasn’t to do an exact replica of Norah Jones version,” Dave explained. “Ours is guitar-driven while hers is piano-driven. Ours is a duet while hers is a singular voice.”

The MountainCity version pays deep respect to the Norah Jones original. It’s soulful and bluesy, a hushed invitation to romance in love. Tara’s voice and Dave’s guitar effortlessly blend, painting an amorous future in breathtaking consonance. The intimately commingled harmony between them two thirds of the way through, “…and I want to wake up,”  is pure (almost heart-stopping) MountainCity, a notable moment in this version of their song.

Come away with me

And I’ll never stop loving you”*

“It was a great privilege to record Come Away with Me. It has and will continue to have even more of our story intertwined with it,” Dave said. “We totally enjoyed recording this song and we look forward to hearing our friends and fans’ responses!”

As with every song they release, MountainCity hopes this song will help listeners connect with love in a fresh way.
